The fruits of the anise plant are spicy and sweet. This white flowering plant originally comes from the Mediterranean region. Its small brown seeds give off an intense aroma with a hint of liquorice – especially suited to enhancing stewed fruit, fish dishes and spicy bread dough. Anise has been known and popular in Europe for over 3,500 years. Even Pythagoras appreciated not only philosophy and right-angled triangles, but also bread seasoned with anise.
